National Popular Vote Action Team

Educate. Participate. Advocate.

HB 191 has been filed. It proposes that North Carolina join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. Our National Popular Vote Action team has reached out to Representatives and Senators in the General Assembly who represent all the counties in which we have members: Buncombe, Cherokee, Jackson, Madison, and McDowell. We have gotten positive responses but most have not responded to our offer to brief them on the National Popular Vote. We are proud to see that Caleb Rudow, who represents part of Buncombe County, is a co-sponsor.

The National Popular Vote Action Team

The National Popular Interstate Compact will guarantee the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes across all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The Compact is a state-based approach that preserves the Electoral College, state control of elections, and the power of the states to control how the President is elected. The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact will go into effect when enacted by states possessing a majority of electoral votes (at least 270 of 538). All of this group of 270 plus electors will be supporters of the candidate who received the most popular votes in all 50 states and DC – thus making that candidate President.

The National Popular Vote Action Team coordinates with the North Carolina League and local chapters in advocating for the introduction and passage of a National Popular Interstate Compact Bill by the North Carolina Legislature. The National Popular Vote organization provides information and guidance.

Team members are:
