• The City of Asheville operates under a council-manager form of government.
• The City Council appoints a City Manager to oversee day-to-day operations and to execute laws and policies.
• The City Council establishes the city’s policies.
• The City Council is made up of a mayor and six council members.
• They are elected for 4-year staggered terms.
• The Council Members are elected at-large. The NCGA enacted a bill in 2018 to require the city to use voting districts, but in 2019 the council voted to change the city’s charter to continue to use an at-large system.
