ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Buncombe County election officials performed a test run Thursday, Oct. 5, ahead of the upcoming municipal elections in November.

The purpose of Thursday’s mock election was to simulate election night and reporting election results.

It’s a way to make sure each piece of equipment is working correctly.

Election officials say this can cut down on technical issues on Election Night.

“Since 2020, there has been an increase in interest in how elections are run, so procedures like this mock election are things that we’ve been doing for years and years, and now we’re able to get some attention on those procedures and it’s great,” said Corinne Duncan, Buncombe County elections director.

This year’s election will take place on November 7.

The deadline to register is Oct. 13, but anyone who misses that date can still register and vote at the same time during early voting.
