Early Voting and Same Day Registration

Educate. Participate. Advocate.

Early Voting

Early voting begins the third Wednesday prior to Election Day and ends on the last Saturday before the election, at 1:00 p.m. The dates are October 15th through the 31st. Visit the Board of Elections website for the latest on early voting sites and to see how many people are in line to vote.

During Early Voting, you may visit any site to vote. On election day, you must vote at your designated polling place. For information on candidates, voter registration, voting deadlines and more, visit Vote411.org.

You’ll be able to download an Early Voting Schedule showing times and locations for early voting from the Board of Elections website as soon as those details have been established for the next upcoming election.

Absentee Ballots

Anyone can vote by mail – no reason need be given. If you choose to vote by mail, you must fill out and sign an Absentee Ballot Request Form and mail it to the Board of Elections. They will mail you an Absentee Ballot. You must fill out the ballot and sign it. Then mail the ballot to the Board of Elections with appropriate first class postage.

Same Day Registration

If you are not registered to vote by the registration deadline, you may register during early voting only on the same day you vote.  In that case you will have to provide proof of your ID – either a photo ID or a current utility bill, bank statement, govt. check, paycheck, or other govt. document.

Be a Poll Worker

You can be vital part of the voting process by working as a Poll Worker on a team of workers at voting locations during Early Voting or on Election Day. Poll Workers are especially needed this year. You get paid during training sessions and while working. Click here for Buncombe County’s Poll Worker information and application form.
